This is a wonderfully versatile and easy-to-make flatbread.
It has simple ingredients and is economical and delicious. Use it for wraps, pizza bases or add herbs and garlic butter.
Once you've mastered homemade flatbread you'll never want to buy commercially produced flatbread, pizza bases or burrito wraps again. Plus you'll never need to worry about running out of bread!
3 cups self-raising flour (or 3 cups plain flour with 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder)
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup of vegetable oil (canola is fine)
1 cup hot water
Mix flour, baking powder if needed, and salt in a bowl.
Add oil and mix with your hands until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Add 1 cup hot water, mix and kneed until a ball of dough is formed.
Cover and leave for at least 30 minutes.
Divide into 8-12 balls and roll flat over a floured surface until 20-25cm across approximately (can be bigger or smaller).
Brush off excess flour and dry fry (no oil) on a medium high heat for approximately 30 seconds until it starts to bubble and puff up.
Turn when brown blisters form on the underside and fry the other side.
Stack and serve.
